Music Therapist in Kingston Unlocks the Gift of Expression

Rick Soshensky, MA, LCAT, MT-BC, NRMT, Founder/Director: Rick has been a Music Therapist for 30+ years and has lived his entire professional life in the world of music. As part of the New York City music scene in the 70’s, ’80’s and 90’s, Rick played in bands, wrote songs, recorded and performed at CBGB, The Bitter End, Folk City and other famous NY clubs as well as throughout the country. He performed for the Royal Family of England several times and played on dates with Ella Fitzgerald, The Four Tops and other luminaries.

Rick enrolled in New York University in 1992 to study in the Music Therapy Master’s degree program, graduating in 1995. In 2000 he was offered a full scholarship to study at the world-renowned Nordoff-Robbins Center where he pioneered guitar techniques for its use as a primary instrument for music therapy. Prior to establishing The Music Therapy Studio in 2012, Rick worked in a numerous hospitals, clinical programs, special education schools and other therapeutic settings (for more info see Rick’s CV).

Rick’s work has been featured in The New York Times, National Public Radio, Fox Radio and numerous other print, TV, radio and web media. In addition to his award-winning book, “The Music Therapy Studio: Empowering the Soul’s Truth,” Rick has published numerous journal articles and has lectured nationally and internationally.

Brittany Earl-Colandrea, MS, MT-BC: Brittanyhas been a board-certified music therapist since October, 2020. She attended SUNY New Paltz from 2014-2020. Brittany majored in Music Therapy and minored in Psychology during her undergraduate years. As a graduate student, she became the President of the Music Therapy Club and graduated from the Music Therapy Master’s degree program in August, 2020. Throughout her education and career she has worked with people of all ages in a variety of settings, including nursing homes, physical rehabilitation centers, day hab programs, group homes, and schools. Brittany has been a musician since 2008 and has performed with a variety of bands. She currently works as a professional musician with the Hudson Valley band, Lucky House.
